East facing houses are the second most preferred homes after north facing ones. In vastu shastra, East facing houses can range from being very auspicious to very inauspicious ones. It’s not the orientation of the house that makes it auspicious or inauspicious; it’s the placement of all the rooms, parts and the entrance of the home that matters; however, a “huge importance” is given to the entrance of the house.

East facing houses in vastu shastra, there’re rules, guidelines and principles that you need to and must follow when it comes to doing vastu for East facing house. The placement of the main door is importance. East is considered to be a good direction in vastu shastra but must locate the entrance at only “allowed” places and never locate in the “prohibited” zones.

East part (length from North-East to South-East) is divided in 9 equal parts. Each part is called as “pada” or step in vastu shastra. The 5th pada is the most auspicious one to locate a main door for East facing home. It’s the location of Sun (the God of fame) and blesses the residents with a lot of name, fame and respect in the society. The pada’s 3^rd and 4^th are the ones that you can use (for entrance/main door) if pada 5^th alone is small. But make sure to include pada 5^th along with padas 4^th or 3^rd. Padas 1^st and 2^nd are the prohibited ones; however, if you happen to locate the entrance of your home here then there’s nothing to fret about as it won’t bring any harm; however, it may not give any benefits at the same time too. Also, if you’re planning to use pada 1^st for main door, then make sure to leave at least 6 inches (1/2 feet) of space from NE wall; i.e the main door shouldn’t touch NE corner. The pada’s 6^th and 7^th are the ones that can be used if there’s no option to place the main door towards padas 4^th, 3^rd, 2^nd or 1^st. However, it’s always better to include pada 5^th in this arrangement. Padas 8 and 9 are the “prohibited” ones and must never be used to locate the entrance of a house and that’s because it’s the place from where illness enters the home.

East facing house shouln't build kitchen, toilets, septic tank in North East corner. It is prohibited to place bedroom in North Eeast corner. Its not good to made staircase in North-East of a house. Don’t buy a plot that slopes from North to South also don’t' keep big trees in North and East of a house. Mustn't build clutter, dirt, dustbins etc. in North and North East.

East Facing House Vastu should place the main door in 5th pada, also can place entrance in padas 4th to 1st if pada 5 alone is small. Make walls in North and East slightly shorter and thinner than South and West. Make sure that kitchen is in South East or North West. Face East (in South Eeast kitchen) and West (in North Waste kitchen) while cooking. Pooja room in North East is very auspicious. A living room in North East is also good.  You can have a guest bedroom in North West. A plot that slopes from South to North is considered good. South West master bedroom is the best.

West Facing House Vastu

There are many people who consider living in West facing homes because they regard it to be a very good direction for constructing a house. The rules and regulations regarding the directions that you can select for constructing your homes are all given in Vastu Shastra.

West facing houses are basically those homes that have their entrance in the west direction and the main road is also located in this particular direction only. It is a common belief that west facing homes are not good for all types of constructions. They are regarded to be very good for some while negative for others.

Vastu has rules and regulations for the construction of homes in every direction. If you are interested in west facing homes, then below stated are some Vastu tips and tricks that can really help you in many ways.

It's the entrance of the house that has got the highest importance in vastu shastra and West facing home is not an exception. Divide house North-West (NW) corner to the South-West (SW) corner in 9 equal parts; each part is called as pada (or step) in vastu shastra. The NW pada is 1st and the SW pada is 9th. The main door of the home can be located in any of the four padas 3, 4, 5 and 6 are the ones that are best suited to locate the entrance of a West facing house. The entrance of a West facing house can also be located in padas 1 and 2 (only if there’s no option to use 3, 4, 5 and 6 padas); this entrance may not give very good results but will not give bad results either. Padas 7, 8 and 9 are the ones that are prohibited.

West Facing House must avoid entrance in 7th, 8th and 9th pada of West side. Never locate a bore-well or water pump in SW of the house. Never buy a plot or flat having extension in South or SW. Avoid a plot that’s higher in North than South and never have a kitchen in SW of the house.

Locate the entrance in 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th pada in West. You can also use 1st and 2nd padas if you want. The walls of the house in South and West must be thicker and higher than East and North. Place the kitchen in South East or North West of the house; South East is better. Master bedroom in South West is the best; if the house has multiple floors then locate the master bedroom at the highest floor. Living room and Pooja room in North East of the house is very auspicious. Kid’s room can be in South, West or North-West. A guest bedroom can be placed in North-West. A plot that slopes from South to North is considered auspicious.

South Facing House Vastu

South facing houses are always not bad.  Southwest is not good, House facing Southwest gives failure in every field to the inmates like health, wealth, status and many more.

South facing plot is also very good for all type of constructions, like house, flat or a business enterprise. However, due care should be taken while planning construction design for that South facing House. The magnetic forces of the earth are designed from North Pole and to be received by the South Pole, so south facing plot brings success for every effort, if built according to Vaastu Shastra.

Main thing that can make a house inauspicious is the entrance/main door of the house.  We can divide the South part (the length from South-East to South-West) in 9 equal parts. Each part is called as “pada” or step in vastu shastra. The entrance or main door of the house must be located on the 4th pada (step or part) of the south side it is the best and the most auspicious for entrance or main door of a south facing home.  The pada’s 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd are the ones that you can use (for entrance/main door) if pada 4^th alone is small. But make sure to include pada 4^th along with padas 3^rd, 2^nd or 1^st. If you’re using space up to pada 1^st, then make sure that the entrance/main door doesn’t touch the South East corner. Leave at least 6 inches from South East wall.  The pada’s 5^th to 9^th are the ones that are prohibited, as per vastu shastra, for having an entrance. Hence, a main door at padas 5^th to 9^th is inauspicious.

North Facing House Vastu

The main entrance of the house is one of the most important areas. It is the mouth of a house which brings in main energy. North is the most prominent cardinal direction in Vastu Shastra and recognized as favourable after East. North is opposite direction of South and seems perpendicular to East and West. The significance of North in Vastu is due to its sacredness where all positive energies reign and surrounds that is why Northern sides of home or factory are recommended to leave open.

In other words, facing of a house is not a guarantee of it being auspicious, there’s something more to it than facing and that’s the placement of main door/entrance and remaining rooms of a home.

As vastu shastra, none of the direction is considered bad. In fact, vastu shastra never says that one direction is good and another one is bad. Also, as per same vastu shastra, it’s the placement of main door/entrance and other rooms of a home that makes it auspicious or inauspicious; however, a huge importance given to the main door.

Having said that, things are a bit different with North facing houses; since North direction, in vastu shastra, is believed to be auspicious, the placement of door at any location in North side is considered good. You can place main door at any location in North side and it’s not going to harm you at least.

Vastu Shastra and Directions

Many people are often confused when it comes to finding the direction to which their house is facing. In fact there are many who believe that finding the right facing of their home is actually tough, but let me tell you something; finding the correct facing or direction of a house is easy.

How to correctly identify the facing of your home

Step 1: Stand at the entrance door of your home facing outside (as if you’re going out of your home). Step 2: Record the direction you are facing, using a compass, while you are in the position mentioned in step 1 and there you are, the direction that you have just noted in step 2 is the direction your house faces.

If while coming out of your home, you face North – then you have a North facing house; similarly if you face South while coming out of your home, then you have a South facing house.

North, South, East, West are four main direction and 4 sub-directions North-East, North-West, South-East, South-West. The 4 sub-directions have a lot of priority and importance in vastu shastra as they are the ones where the bedroom, kitchen, living room, guest room etc. must be placed in your home. The point is that you need to not only identify the direction that your house faces but also all the 4 sub-directions to make your home a vastu compliant one.

North

North is the most prominent cardinal direction in Vastu Shastra and recognized as favourable after East. North is opposite direction of South and seems perpendicular to East and West. The significance of North in Vastu is due to its sacredness where all positive energies reign and surrounds that is why Northern sides of home or factory are recommended to leave open.

North is ruled by Lord Kubera- God of wealth and Vastu says to keep this side open so as to raise inflow of wealth, success and riches. Vastu has immense significance for two cardinal directions i.e. East and North because both the directions have implicitly linked with divine energy. North is again highly charged direction with positive vibration which it absorbs from cosmos to instill in the surroundings.

North is the essence of life and any construction should be done according to Vastu because any defect in North or wrong construction can lead to slow growth, more expenditure than earnings, women problems and loss of wealth. Northern sides of a plot should be left open and more space should be given in the balcony if ideal entrance of plot is North.

According to Vastu, the more the open space in North and North-east, the more the presence of riches and harmony in a living place. Therefore, North should not be obstructed by any heavy weight or even any construction should be avoided as it can hamper the health, wealth and success of occupants.

South

South direction is the direction governed by Lord of death- Yama, and therefore some in-auspiciousness is linked with this direction which certainly makes it unfavorable direction. Although South direction can yield good result akin to North direction, but one has to be cautious while constructing specific place in South as Vastu rules out some particular sections in this direction.

South entrance according to Vastu is inauspicious but is not bad as no living place or other place can be perfect or Vastu compliant. While only South entrance is not considered inauspicious as such, but it is the entire orientation of the plot or house which decides factors of auspiciousness in house. Although there are some repercussions of South entrance but if this direction is utilized efficiently and effectively then nothing can cease to bring prosperity, success, and riches in living place.

Vastu lays down some norms and set of rules pertaining to every direction which is necessary to follow. One should not prejudice regarding South direction plot on the raged rumours that South direction plots are not good and bring downfall of occupant. Every direction is suitable, provided if it is constructed in the ideal & effective manner. There are specifically some areas or section which is prohibited in South direction according to Vastu, for instance Septic tank, kid’s room, living room and guest room.

To make most out of South direction plots, it advisable to follow Vastu instructions so that the negative effects get nullify or balanced with energies with placement of proper room.

East

East is the governing direction of solar deity- Sun god and most significant direction in Hindu cosmology from where all positive energy springs to brighten the earth surroundings. According to Vastu Shastra there are four cardinal directions recognized as a square and all the four directions have a conjunction point. East is the foremost direction in Vastu which is the place of all auspicious energies, that is why East facing plots are recommended as dwelling place.

The auspiciousness of East direction is recognized to bring good luck, peace, prosperity, harmony and health by effectively using the space with Vastu norms. Although not only East direction alone can bring riches and good health but there are many other factors which determines the auspiciousness of place. East is the ideal direction for the construction of living place but inmates can attain the riches of life only after utilizing the space with Vastu.

East direction has huge significance in our life because this is ruled by solar deity i.e. Sun god who is the essence of life and illuminates the world by shining bright. On the other hand East is the most favourable in the all the four cardinal directions in Vastu Shastra. Being an important direction and place of positive energies East ancient considers it the most significant and ideal direction to dwell. Therefore this area should ideally be left open with more space for sunlight and Vastu suggests having entrance door in East only.

West

West direction is being ruled by Lord Varun and governed by element water which is the vital for survival. West is though have no significance attached with sacredness as it is with East and North but if West is utilized effectively then it yields incredible results with no obstruction wealth and health. The significance of West direction is commendable in terms of over-all prosperity if there are minimal Vastu defects.

West direction is although not favourable direction yet it is the vital direction for survival being governed by essential element Water. West induces in occupants attributes of being bold, energetic, wealth and development. According to Vastu Shastra West direction is suitable for many specific regions and ensuring any defect can save occupants from sufferings.
